Irvine, Calif. – October 29, 2008 – Prescription Solutions, a leading pharmacy benefits management (PBM) organization and a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company, today announced that it is one of the first companies to have earned both of URAC’s new accreditations for Mail Service and Specialty Pharmacy programs. URAC offers the only third-party, voluntary accreditation program of this scope for PBMs and pharmacy practices, recognizing organizations with the highest standards of quality assurance controls, organizational structure and business practices.

Prescription Solutions previously received URAC accreditation for its Pharmacy Benefits Management and Disease Management programs. The new standards for Specialty Pharmacy and Mail Service Pharmacy were approved by URAC in August 2008 as part of its Pharmacy Quality ManagementSM accreditation programs.
Specialty pharmacy organizations offer a high-touch, comprehensive pharmacological care system, including the personalized, expert therapy management and support needed by patients with chronic illnesses and complex disease states. Mail service pharmacies, the fastest growing distribution channel for prescription drugs, are generally used by those who require maintenance medications for chronic conditions and prefer to receive these medications in supplies lasting longer than 30 days, often at a lower cost.
