As one of the youngest leaders in the consumer- directed health care industry, William Short’s passion and success in bringing tremendous growth and change to the organizations he has played a leadership role in put him on par with well-respected CDHC veterans.

Named president and CEO of AmeriFlex in January 2009, Short, 29, has led the company to achieve
unprecedented growth. He also has remained firmly committed to introducing new solutions that will facilitate CDHC for consumers and provide greater efficiencies and reduced costs to payers, providers, and employers.

“At AmeriFlex, we’ve been successful in bringing together a team of individuals, who have dedicated their careers to improving the processes that our market demands and desperately needs,” Short said.

Short has a firm belief that properly aligned financial incentives are the best way to drive behavioral and organizational change, a concept that fits perfectly within the CDHC philosophy.

With his technological expertise, Short has identified ways in which technology could be leveraged to facilitate the consumer’s front-end experience while allowing for greater efficiencies (and reduced costs) within the back-end health care payments system.

Building upon its industry-leading debit card platform, earlier this year the company introduced the AmeriFlex Convenience Sleeve, a health care payments solution that allows for the automatic payment of patient financial responsibility at the point-of-service directly to the health care provider (from one or more health care spending accounts), and auto-adjudication of health care claims.

Short has continued to play a central role in industry efforts to protect and expand CDHC, and to educate consumers, employers, brokers, and even members of Congress on the importance and value of CDHPs within the context of policy change and health care reform.

One of Short’s early entries into the CDHC industry involved the creation of a disease management information system aimed at controlling health care expenditures through preventive medicine, as well as the establishment of an online physician pricing program (http://www.doctorpricing.com) that seeks to bring greater price transparency to consumers.
