Health promotion, as defined by the World Health Organization, is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health.
1 In the USA, health promotion is much more narrowly conceived as "the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health."
2 Means of health promotion include health education and social marketing.
