Molly Knapp has joined MassMutual as managing director covering northern California and Alaska. She brings more than 11 years of retirement services experience to her new role and formerly was regional sales director at OneAmerica/AUL Retirement Services.
JF Mannina has been named to MassMutual's Northeast client service team as relationship manager for the metropolitan New York City area. He joined MassMutual in 2005 and was most recently an investments management director in MassMutual's Retirement Services Division.
Wayne Roth has joined MassMutual's client management team as director of worksite solutions. He has more than 10 years of experience in the financial services industry and was most recently employed by The Principal Financial Group where he served as a retirement resources consultant.
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina announces that Chairman and CEO M. Edward Sellers retired as CEO, effective August 1, and that current President and COO David S. Pankau has been named president and CEO. Sellers will continue as chairman of the board. He has been with Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 32 years, including 23 years in South Carolina. He has been CEO since 1992 and chairman since 2001.
Susan Fanciulo has been appointed regional vice president, sales, for the northeast region of the National Accounts business unit at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Based in New York City, her territory includes Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and parts of New York. She is an industry veteran with more than 21 years of industry experience in sales, account management and underwriting.
Health care technology company change:health care has announced several key staff additions to accommodate recent and impending growth. CFO Julia Polk will manage the company’s financial, capital and legal strategies, business model development, and strategic alliances. Most recently, she was a consultant for venture capital company Solidus, where she helped companies in both health care and other industries manage financial strategies, as well as raise debt and equity capital. Page Thompson has been promoted to vice president of sales. He has been at the company since October 2007, joining from Edgenet, where he opened new customer markets and managed strategic client relationships. R. Tate McDaniel joins the company as director of sales. He formerly was director of business development for SunTrust Bank's institutional division. Katherine Terrell has been named art director and will oversee creative execution of the change:healthcare brand communications. She joins the company from digital signage company Blast Panel, where she was art director.
Eric Jones has joined Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian) as regional vice president for Florida in its Retirement Solutions division. Eric joins Guardian from Benetech Inc., where he was a regional pension consultant for more than 10 years. He previously held senior executive positions with A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. and Principal Financial Group.
EPIC (Edgewood Partners Insurance Center), a retail property, casualty and employee benefits insurance brokerage, has announced the following appointments:
- Jim Gillette as a principal and senior vice president in its Los Angeles office. Jim brings many years of client management, advocacy, and risk advisory experience to EPIC.
- Andrea Ballard as a senior account executive in its San Francisco office. Andrea brings more than 25 years of experience in the employee benefits industry and her career has included positions with insurance carriers, national and regional brokerages, and other benefit service providers.
- Alisa Locricchio as an employee benefits consultant in its San Francisco office. Alisa brings a well-rounded knowledge of group health and welfare and voluntary plans to EPIC’s growing benefits consulting team.
- Dana Liedel, who joined EPIC as principal and corporate development officer in November 2009, will assume the executive leadership role in the firm’s Employee Benefits Consulting Practice. She will now be responsible for strategic planning and management, new business development, building EPIC’s Employee Benefits brand, strategic market and vendor relationships, and overall client satisfaction.
- Sarah Dodge has joined as benefits technology specialist in EPIC’s Employee Benefits Consulting Division. Sarah adds significant benefits, human resources management system and payroll administration knowledge and implementation experience to the EPIC team.
- Jim Hilbrant as a producer in its Orange office. Jim brings more than 30 years of experience in commercial property and casualty insurance to EPIC.
- Cheryl Downey as a senior vice president in its San Ramon-based Programs Group. Cheryl brings to EPIC more than 25 years of experience in commercial property and casualty insurance with a specialty in hospitality industry group insurance program development and management.
EPIC (Edgewood Partners Insurance Center), a retail property, casualty and employee benefits insurance brokerage, announces the addition of North Bay insurance veterans Bill Merget and Mike Ryan as principals, opening the firm's newest branch office in Petaluma, CA. Bill and Mike bring to EPIC a combined 35 years of experience in commercial property and casualty insurance and risk management, focused on the needs of North Bay business and industry including wine making, construction, nonprofits and the public sector.
HealthEquity Inc., a health savings trustee, announced that Michael O. Leavitt, former Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush and three-term governor of the state of Utah, has joined its board of directors. He is chairman of Leavitt Partners, a private firm that advises people who invest in health care and food safety.
Travel Guard North America has appointed Brian Ingber and Jill Milliken as directors of sales of its Business Travel Services unit. Travel Guard recently launched Premier Assist, a comprehensive medical, security, and travel assistance program designed for international business travelers, expatriates, students and other global travelers.
Douglas C. Gosney has been appointed regional vice president of group insurance distribution of Sun Life Financial Inc. (NYSE:SLF, TSX:SLF). Based out of Houston, he will be responsible for sales efforts in the markets of Atlanta, Baltimore, Charlotte, Houston, Tampa, South Florida, Richmond and Nashville.
Leo Tokar has joined the Denver office of Lockton Companies LLC as senior vice president, client service executive in the Benefits Department. Leo will play a key role in developing strategic solutions for Lockton clients in the rapidly changing landscape of employee benefits. Leo’s prior experience with Kaiser offers Lockton clients a 360° perspective on solutions to health and welfare issues.
Brian Siegenthaler has joined Companion Life Insurance Co. as director of group marketing for Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and Eastern Iowa. Brian, a 20-year veteran of the employee benefits industry, will specialize in the sale and marketing of Companion Life products through general agents, brokers and specialty distribution systems.
Kaye Pestaina, former vice president and senior health compliance specialist at The Segal Company, has been tapped to take a senior position at a newly-created office at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service that will implement many of the insurance reforms of the Affordable Care Act.
Portal Insurance Agency has appointed Nicole Jones-Gyllstrom as executive vice president responsible for overseeing employee benefits consulting services. Nicole will work with Portal Insurance Agency and Portal of Nevada, as well as other Ascension companies, to assist in managing program designs, benefit strategies and operations. Nicole joins Portal from Mercer.
Michael L. Ansel has joined PharmMD, a provider of medication therapy management. Michael will manage PharmMD’s client management department, commercial sales and be responsible for developing emerging relationships with key strategic partners.
Summit Reinsurance Services Inc. (Summit Re), has announced several new hires:
- Jeana Kidd has joined Summit Re as a managed care coordinator. Jeana has more than 20 years of experience in the health care and insurance industries. Her primary focus will be on administering Summit Re’s comprehensive managed care program for self-funded clients.
- Shane Kemerly has joined Summit Re as a regional vice president. With more than 15 years of employer stop loss sales experience, Shane will be responsible for a selected territory, primarily in the eastern and southeastern United States.
- Charleen Dugas has joined Summit Re as a senior underwriter. Based in Indianapolis, she is responsible for assigned employer stop loss accounts. Charleen has 14 years of underwriting experience, underwriting new business and renewals for selected clients.
- Scott Terhaar has joined Summit Re as a senior underwriter. Terhaar will assist Brian Shively and Greg Demars in Summit Re’s HMO-carrier-provider excess underwriting unit. He will be based in Minneapolis and brings 15 years of experience to Summit Re.
Rose Sandoval has joined the board of directors at the Massachusets Association of Health Underwriters, which represents more than 1,000 health insurance agents. She is one of the founding partners of Benefit Strategy Partners, LLC. in Stoneham, MA, and has more 18 years in the employee benefits consulting and brokerage profession.
BeneTrac has promoted Chris Taylor to field sales manager. Chris is based in Atlanta and in his new role as field sales manager he will oversee sales directors based in Texas, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and New York. He will also be responsible for sales in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Louisiana.
The Segal Company has made several hires and personnel moves:
- James Sokol, senior vice president, was named chief information officer, replacing former CIO Joel Levy. James has been with Segal's IT department for more than 20 years. After a series of promotions, he was named chief technology officer in 2002 and a senior vice president in 2005.
- Kim Nicholl has joined Segal as a senior vice president. Kim has more than 25 years of experience as an actuary and consultant, most recently, as managing director of Public Sector Retirement Consulting for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
- Auntone (Tony) A. Kelly, CLU, has been promoted to senior vice president. Tony joined The Segal Company’s New York office in 1986 and transferred to the Chicago office in 1992. He was promoted to vice president in 1998. With almost 25 years of experience he has an extensive background in the employee benefits field.
- Mark A. Dobrow, CFA, CPA, RPLU, has been promoted to vice president. Mark joined The Segal Company’s National Fiduciary Liability Insurance Practice as a consultant in Chicago in 2007. He works extensively with clients throughout the Midwest.
- Daniel F. Fatzler has been named vice president and chief technology officer. Daniel joined the firm’s New York office in 2004 as a senior IT project manager following five years of working with The Segal Company as an external IT consultant. He provides technical and management leadership on key IT projects.
- Matthew E. Jackson has been promoted to vice president. Matthew works with many large national benefit plans and retiree health VEBAs and coordinates fiduciary liability insurance services in the East Region. Jackson is a licensed broker in over 30 states.
- Heather McIntyre, ASA, has been named vice president. She acts as primary support for the actuarial valuation system used by the company’s actuaries. Heather received a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics from The College of Charleston and a master's degree in computer science from Pace University.
- Mindy C. Rosenthal has been promoted to vice president. Mindy joined The Segal Company in 2002 as a senior consultant for the Communications Practice in New York. She has 25 years of experience in communications consulting and business administration.
- Henry Wong, ASA, MAAA, FCA, EA, has been named vice president. Henry joined The Segal Company in 1995 as an assistant actuary and later became a consulting actuary. He is an expert in the design, setup and evaluation of rehabilitation and funding improvement plans as required under the Pension Protection Act of 2006.
Segal Advisors Inc. has promoted Amy Heyel to vice president. Amy joined Segal Advisors’ New York office in 1995 as a financial analyst. She has also served as the director of relationship management and as senior consultant. Amy currently manages several major client relationships across all Segal Advisors markets.
Jim Reynolds, M.D., former chief medical officer at HealthFitness, has joined HealthFitness' Science Advisory Board. Prior to working with HealthFitness Reynolds served as principal and senior health care consultant for Mercer Human Resource Consulting, where he served as a senior clinical consultant on Mercer's Health and Productivity Management specialty practice.
Eric D. Hargan, a former deputy secretary and regulatory policy officer with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has joined the 135-attorney Chicago office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP.Hargan focuses his practice on transactions, health care regulations and government relations.
