Leslee Finds Her Secret

2008/11/20: Wellness
Session synopsis by Coach Meg

Listen to the 50 minute coaching session here:
Segment 1
Segment 2

When I asked Leslee what she wanted to accomplish in our session she declared, "I want to find the secret to my life." And, in fact, Leslee did make an important discovery. We started with Leslee's exploration of her recent work to face what was not working in her life. She was focused on trying to fix the things that she did not like about herself. When we closed 50 minutes later (this was longer than the 20 minutes planned), she realized she couldn't fully love others until she was better at loving herself, and she committed to take a step toward identifying her strengths and what is working in her life.

When I asked Leslee to tell me about a vision for her wellness, it was like we flipped a switch. She was surprised to realize that she had never actually said her vision aloud. Her vision -to make her life an exciting adventure -was magnetic and yet felt so far away. It was exciting enough to cause Leslee to question her tendency to focus on her weaknesses rather than her strengths.

It's worth noting that Leslee began by saying that she wanted to "finally take ownership of everything that is going on" and she was referring to her shortcomings. Now her statement has new meaning. Leslee is open to taking responsibility for what she is doing well, embracing her strengths, and using them to support her vision.

When we shift our focus to the best in ourselves, our problems don't go away, but they do look smaller. Our greatest opportunity for growth is not through overcoming our weaknesses, but through the leveraging of our strengths.

In the next blog, Leslee will share her insights and as she says, until then, "Up and to the right!"
