A wellness vision acts as a guide, in creating clarity about who we want to be, what we want to do/have, and why it matters in the first place. For Cindy, and many others, the creation of a wellness vision can serve as a catalyst in turning back-of-mind ruminating into front-of-the-mind passion. More importantly, it can move someone from inaction to action.

Here are a few simple strategies for gaining some clarity about your own wellness vision:

Look Forward.
Thinking beyond our current situation to what could be possible if there were no constraints is a powerful way to get us thinking. Use your imagination to create an image of your 80th birthday party; a milestone event at which all of those who have been loved and touched by you are in attendance and eager to say something about the life that you have lived. Imagine: Who is there? What is it about you that they are joyful to celebrate? What would you want them to say about your wellness? How would they remember your energy? What have they seen you do to take care of yourself? What commitments did they see you make to your health and well-being throughout your life? Take 10 minutes to write about this event and what you imagine they would say if you had lived your best life.

Look Back.
Often the best way to move forward is to build on the strengths of the past. Recall a time in your life when your wellness was at its best. Get the image of that period, or moment, in time clearly in your head. Now, find someone to tell the story of that time, answering the following questions: What was the state of your physical health? How did your body feel? How did you feel emotionally? What was wonderful about this time in your life? What were you doing? Of what were you capable? Of what were you proud? What led you to make the choices that you did? What about the experience would you love to infuse into your life now?

Act Now.
Consider hiring a wellness coach to collaborate with you in crafting a wellness vision that is motivating and moving for you. A close partnership with a coach, can provide you with the structure, accountability, expertise, and inspiration to enable you to learn, grow, and develop beyond what you can do alone.
