In the USA, drug testing for new employees, and during employment is pretty routine, in fact, it’s more unusual not to face some sort of drug testing. That has seen a rise in people wondering how to cheat a nicotine test, due to nicotine testing now becoming more frequent as well.
But why is nicotine testing becoming more frequent, and when could you face a nicotine drug test? Well, I’m going to tell you the reasons you could face a nicotine drug test, how long nicotine stays in your system from vaping and smoking, plus I’ll tell you the best way to pass a nicotine test.

Reasons You Can Be Nicotine Tested
One of the main reasons you could face a test, is through a medical, or life insurance nicotine test. The reason for that is obvious, people who smoke are more prone to illness, and dying young, meaning the insurance company has to pay out.
But some employers are now also doing nicotine testing, along with some organizations. I’ve no idea why they would do this, but it could be for social reasons, wanting a healthier workforce, I really don’t know. But other than employment, the main reasons you might face a nicotine drug test are:
- Court ordered testing, for something like child custody cases
- Smoking cessation programs
- When applying for health insurance or life insurance
- Before certain types of surgery will be undertaken
- Some employers will test for nicotine
- If you are suspected of suffering from nicotine overdose
The thing is, it’s actually called a cotinine test. That’s because they check your urine for the presence of something called cotinine.
Now, this substance is present in all of our bodies, but in a non-smoker, it’s usually present in a concentration of less than 10 ng/mL (that’s nanograms per milliliter). In a light smoker, that level can reach 50 ng/mL, sometimes higher.
But here’s the crucial thing, in a chronic smoker, someone who smokes multiple times per day, the level of cotinine in urine can reach 500 ng/mL. So it’s exponential, depending on how much you smoke, and it’s very difficult to cover up, or get out of your system quickly, should you get tested.
How Long Does Nicotine Stay In Your System From Vaping?
The answer the question around how long does nicotine stay in your system from vaping, is actually exactly the same as the answer the question around how long does nicotine stay in your system from smoking cigarettes. What’s important is that it is processed by your lungs, and that works in exactly the same way, no matter how you inhale it.
In terms of nicotine detection times, they are broad as follows:
- Nicotine can be detected in blood up to 3 days
- Nicotine can be detected in saliva for up to 4 days
- Nicotine can be detected in urine for up to 4 days
- Nicotine can be detected in hair up to 90 days
There are a couple of things that need to be explained around detection times. Firstly, cotinine, which is an alkaloid found in tobacco, can be detected in blood for up to 10 days, although it’s rare for it to hang around that long. It usually can be found for up to four days in saliva and urine, but if you are facing a blood test, you’re actually in danger for up to 10 days.
The second thing to note, is that hair follicle drug tests are always testing for 90 days of historical use. It doesn’t matter what substance you are checking for, legally, they can only take a sample of hair, the records the most recent 90 days history.
So even if your hair is 6 foot long, they can only take around 1 1/2 inches of it (hair grows about half an inch per month), closest to the root, as the sample length.
I’ll also mention here that who you are will matter as well. The more body fat you have, the longer you will store nicotine, because it can attach to fat cells, and can take longer to work its way out.
The speed of your metabolism will matter, the health of your lungs, the health of your kidneys and liver. Basically, the slower your body is to process nicotine byproducts, the longer you will test positive for nicotine/cotinine.
What Is Cotinine?
As I just said, cotinine is an alkaloid found in tobacco. That’s why some people talk about learning how to pass a cotinine test, rather how to cheat the nicotine test. It’s found everyone, but in non-smokers, the concentration is very low, as I’ve already said, usually less than 10 ng/mL.
It’s found slightly longer in blood than nicotine itself, so if you are facing a drug test, it’s the danger of it finding cotinine that’s actually the greater one.
The urban myth that there will be less nicotine from vaping is also worth noting as fake here. Whether you smoke, or vape, it’s what happens when you inhale the nicotine that’s important. Nicotine and cotinine will be present, no matter how you smoke.
What Happens With A Life Insurance Nicotine Test
Especially for senior people, if you’re trying to get life insurance, you might have to have a health examination, to make sure that there are no existing underlying health conditions that you are covering up. Part of that process can be a life insurance nicotine test.
The actual life insurance nicotine test is no different from any other type of nicotine test. You go somewhere, you submit your sample, and it’s evaluated.
Obviously, with life insurance, if you fail the nicotine test, then you might not be eligible for the life insurance policy you want. You’ll be forced to pay more, and you get a poor deal. Which is why so many people look to cheat a nicotine test because it can save them an awful lot of money over many years.
How To Cheat A Nicotine Test
Now the best way to cheat a nicotine test is to not have nicotine in your body. However, if you are a chronic smoker, this could take several weeks.

So the most basic way of getting nicotine out of your system is to do a natural detox. You are not going to like this, because it means you’ve got to give up smoking, for at least for a few weeks.

- Eat whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean meat
- Cut out fatty foods and poor quality nutritional foods
- Exercise regularly
- Keep your mind and body healthy
- Get eight hours sleep a night
- Take vitamin supplements

If you are a chronic smoker, it could take a couple of weeks to do, and under certain circumstances, with lots of nicotine attached to fat cells in your body, they can be working their way out over a month, sometimes even longer.

Learning how to pass a cotinine test in 24 hours is all about knowing which type of nicotine test you are facing.
If it’s a blood test, then they are very rare. Nicotine will be present your blood after about four days, although if you are a chronic smoker, cotinine can stay in your blood for up to 10 days, but that’s rare.
There’s not actually much you can do if you’ve only got four days to wait, under most circumstances. You can’t do anything to filter your blood, so there are not many options you can take.
You could try one of the Toxin Rid short courses, they do a single-day course for example, which could speed things up enough to knock a day off that total.
If you are facing a saliva test for nicotine, then you’re facing something quite rare. Nicotine isn’t testable in saliva after around three days, but usually less, which makes it very unlikely you will ever face that type of test.
