At the beginning of the year I asked coaches in the Wellcoaches community to submit a list of ten ways in which they want to thrive in the upcoming year. The coach who submitted the most compelling ideas would win a series of coaching sessions with me to further develop their ideas and create plans for making it happen. Mary Beth won the coaching sessions and, in the first session, created a list of her top priorities as well as her wellness vision. In this second session, we began conversation around how to make her vision become a reality in her day-to-day life. Here are her commitments and reflections on our session:
Meg,
To align myself with my vision of living life to the fullest and knowing that my outward appearance reflects my passion for healthy living, I am committing myself to these actions steps that will take me closer to the ideal version I have of myself!
I am continuing to eat healthy and exercise consistently. Yahoo, this feels great!
The following reflects where I would like to be in three months:
• I will be watching TV during the week on three nights for only two hours. Two nights a week, I will not be watching TV! I will use that time to clean up cluttered areas in my home and/or garage. I will also use that time to improve my computer (typing) skills and to reflect on the steps I want to pursue in my career/coaching practice.
• I will be devoting 4 hours/week to the above mentioned "projects."
• I will be having a consistent devotional time for myself. This will include three mornings of reading scripture with reflection/prayer time and also weekly mass.
• I will have put into action a plan that helps my mom get some exercise…or I have peace of mind knowing I have tried and have done my best to help her.
To get to those three-month goals, these are my weekly goals:
• TV watching: Mon – 2 hours, Tues – none, Wed – 2 hours, Thurs – unlimited, Fri – 2 hours, Sat – 2 hours, Sun – unlimited
• I will do my Mavis Bacon typing tutor for I hour this week on two, 30-minute segments on Tuesday and Sunday
• On the next two Saturdays, my husband and I will work for 1 hour in the garage/closets, with the effort resulting in a trip to donate what we are getting rid of!
• I will reflect this week on options I can take in helping my mom to exercise again.
I loved your suggestion to do a combination of the three behaviors. It was important for me to remember I had a couple of evenings of unlimited TV watching…whew! I appreciated your acknowledgment of my tears and how they reflected the depth of my concern and caring.
I want to focus on how I can put the same "spin of thriving" on my decision to watch less TV, instead of it feeling burdensome to give up something I really enjoy. I think as soon as I start feeling the satisfaction and pleasure I receive from getting things done, it will help. Taking some small, yet concrete steps, with the goal setting already feels good. I feel focused, knowing that I have a plan to follow.
Thanks Meg!
Mary Beth
