Listen to Coach Meg and Birgitt
here:
Birgitt found that how she felt on the inside did not match what she wanted to do on the outside. She wanted to boldly introduce herself at networking events, clearly articulating information about her coaching business, but she felt an uneasy lack of confidence about doing so.
Through our coaching conversation, Birgit decided to act as if she had that confidence instead of waiting for it to develop.
Be It Now
I am reminded of another client who had the goal of buying herself a most special and beautiful hat when she achieved the level of confidence that she was seeking. The hat would serve as a reward, symbolic of reaching her goal. As we explored this, she discovered the option of buying the hat more immediately. Not long after, she went out and bought that hat, with the plan to wear it as if she already had every assurance about herself. In other words, rather than waiting for the day that confidence arrived, she opened the door and invited it in.
Who Are You Being
In Conversations with God, Neale Donald Walsch scripts his own dialogue with God which reveals to him, that "in life, you do not have to do anything. It's all a question of what you are being." He continues, "First, you be the thing called 'happy' (or 'knowing' or 'wise' or 'compassionate' or whatever), then you start doing things from this place of beingness - and soon you discover that what you are doing winds up bringing you the things you've always wanted to have."
Be Do Have
"The way to set this creative process into motion is to look at what you want to have, ask yourself what you think you would be if you had that, then go right straight into being." Birgitt's shift in how she chose to be has opened up the possibility for her to have what she desired - positive experiences at future networking events. She put on that special hat and walked right in.
Inquiries
What is the hat you are waiting to buy? If you acted "as if" what would you be doing?
Next week, I'll share some practical tools for shifting your ways of being...
