Listen to Coach Meg and Birgitt
here
This week, I have the pleasure of introducing Birgitt, a personal trainer and Wellness Coach whom I have known for several years.
One of the things I most appreciate about coaches is that we assume that clients are creative and whole - meaning not "broken". This belief proved to be true as I learned more about Birgitt. She is a woman who is in touch with her strengths and is actively working to leverage them. She has an acute awareness of her needs and seeks to get them met. And, her humility is amazing.
But, of course, we can be all of these things and still yearn for something more. Birgitt's "something more" was a desire to feel more comfortable, authentic, and clear at networking events where she promotes her new services as a wellness coach.
One of my favorite approaches is to have clients look at their character strengths through the VIA Signature Strengths Questionnaire. Birgitt had taken the assessment a couple of times prior and as is typical, found that her five top strengths had been fairly consistent.
She readily identified that working with her "Authenticity" strength was a good path toward building confidence in networking settings. And, she realized that a focus on a top strength was preferable to focusing on overcoming the "weakness" (nervousness, talking to fast, etc.)
Using visualization and planning, Birgitt plans to act as if confidence and calm are already a part of her chemistry and experience - even in the moments that she's not necessarily feeling that way.
Next week, we'll get an update on Birgitt's progress toward her vision...
